Logistics Park Vienna – sustainable development progress report

Helios are set to achieve OGNI Gold status at their AyKa Helios Logistics Park in Vienna. The site is a former municipal tip which is now transformed into a state of the art logistics facility of 80,000 square metres (860,000 square feet). Helios worked with the local authorities in Vienna to design a scheme which left the waste in situ but protected by a thick layer of impermeable clay top and bottom and a new membrane for protection. In addition, new inspection tunnels have been built so that we can monitor ground water quality to ensure there is no adverse effect on the local water course. Above ground we have made extensive use of timber in the columns, beams and roof decking as we move to more sustainable construction methods. The park will be powered by PV panels installed on the roofs of the two logistics halls and at ground level on the areas of land which were unsuitable for building. The completed development will be one of the largest in Austria and an exemplar of sustainable development.
